According to a tweet from Marty McGee of the Daily Racing Form, who confirmed the information with Mena’s close friend, trainer Al Stall,

Jr., journeyman jockey Miguel Mena was struck and killed as a passerby on Interstate 64 near Louisville on the evening of October 31.

Mena, 34, started riding in this country in 2003, posting his first win at Gulfstream Park that September.

According to his biography on the Kinland website, Mena’s father, Jose, was also a jockey when his uncle was a trainer.
