Businessman Nino Cerruti Dies at 91 -What happened with him !

Nino Cerruti

Pioneering Italian fashion designer Nino Cerruti, who introduced “casual chic” into men’s fashion and in his heyday dressed Hollywood stars, has died at the age of 91.

Cerruti, who created the first deconstructed jacket in the 1970s, was one of the leading figures in men’s ready-to-wear fashion in the 20th century, with a look that was at once stylish and relaxed.

“I have always dressed the same person, myself,” confided the Italian couturier. Slender, he wanted to be the first to try his own creations, many of which were kept in the workshop of the weaving factory founded in 1881 by his grandfather in Biella, in northern Italy.

Reports say he passed away in hospital in Piedmont where he had checked in for a hip operation.

His grandfather had founded a textile mill in Biella in 1881, the Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti. Drawing from his experience in producing excellent fabrics, Cerruti ventured into the production of clothing in the late 1950s.

His first men’s collection, Hitman, was shown in 1957 and was considered revolutionary in men’s wear at the time, as Cerruti is credited as the first to create the deconstructed jacket for men.

Cerruti opened his first eponymous boutique a decade later in Place de la Madeleine in Paris, where he later moved his company’s offices to be close to the beating heart of fashion.
