An investigation is underway after a Hialeah Hospital worker who became a TikTok star was killed in a hit-and-run Tuesday that was caught on camera.
The 34-year-old doctor, Leonardo Gil, who gained popularity on TikTok with over 100,000 followers, has died following a hit and run incident on his motorbike after finishing a shift at a hospital in Hialeah, Florida on January 25.
The 34-year-old Cuban immigrant was on his motorcycle just after 9 p.m. in the area of East 21st Street and 8th Avenue when a vehicle struck him and kept driving. Hialeah police say they are looking for a dark-colored SUV or van.
His aunt Katiuska Fernandez told WSVN: “Leonardo knew how to make people smile. Whether he met you on the streets, or if you were one of his more than 90,000 TikTok followers, his goal was to brighten up your day.
“Everybody knows he’s going to say something good,” she added.
Police said the vehicle that struck Gil was a dark-colored SUV or van. The driver momentarily stopped but ultimately fled the scene.
Surveillance video released by police Thursday showed the vehicle making a left turn at the intersection before it’s hit by the motorcycle.
“Multiple people were present when that accident occurred, so there’s got to be a lot of witnesses out there,” said Hialeah police Lt. Eddie Rodriguez. “The most minimal piece of information to you have might actually just break the case.”
Devastated by the news, fans of the TikToker have flooded the comments of Leonardo’s most recent TikTok.
